spring’s last snowfall: a peaceful pause before the bloom
woke up to a breathtaking spring snow this morning—thick, wet snow draped over branches, evergreens, and every inch of the landscape. it's that kind of peaceful, quiet morning where the world seems to pause for just a little while, wrapped in a blanket of fresh snow. despite the calendar saying it's spring, winter had one last surprise in store. sometimes, we get a snowfall or two before spring fully takes over, and honestly, i don't mind. there's something magical about seeing the contrast of fresh white snow against the early buds of trees and shrubs trying to push forward into the new season.
i had planned to head out and measure a property today for an upcoming landscape design and hardscape installation, but with all this snow cover, that’ll have to wait! instead, i'll be spending time at my drawing board, refining a design i'm working on for a home in aurora. it's an exciting project—a complete landscape transformation, including new plantings and a stone retaining wall in the front yard that will add both beauty and function. designing during a snowfall like this is inspiring in its own way. even though everything is covered in white right now, i'm envisioning lush greenery, vibrant blooms, and carefully placed stonework that will bring this property to life when the warmer days arrive.
later today, i'm heading to a naperville chamber of commerce luncheon to connect with other local businesses. networking and meeting with other professionals in the area is such a valuable part of running a business, and i always walk away with new insights and connections. while the snow may have put a slight pause on site work, it's the perfect day to focus on design, planning, and collaboration. before long, spring will be here in full force, and we'll be out in the field, bringing these visions to life.
for now, i'm just soaking in this unexpected moment of winter’s last stand, knowing that soon, the gardens will bloom, patios will be filled with laughter, and outdoor spaces will be ready to enjoy once again. spring is on the way!
